Why is Casualty not on anymore?

Why has Casualty been off air? – Why Is Casualty Not On BBC Along with several other shows, Casualty has fallen victim to the ongoing scheduling changes over the summer, due to various sport events airing on BBC instead. The last episode of Casualty aired on Saturday, July 9 – but the show was facing heavy scheduling chaos even before then.

Since May, the BBC medical drama has been airing intermittently, with two double episodes airing through June as well. This was to ensure that viewers still received the same amount of episodes in the long run, especially with the end of the series fast approaching. Casualty ‘s linear episode order was also thrown out of sync back in June, when it had to pull a high-stakes instalment at the last minute.

An 80-minute special, titled ‘Wednesday’s Child’ and focusing on Ollie Hide’s story, was temporarily axed just days before broadcast, due to the devastating shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Another episode named ‘By Any Means’, focusing on Paige and Rash’s story, aired on the evening of June 11 instead, with the missing edition eventually airing a week later on June 18.

Why has Casualty missed an episode?

Casualty Episode Skipped Why Is Casualty Not On

BBC One skipped an episode of CASUALTY this week after deeming it inappropriate to show under current circumstances. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, episode 33 of the medical drama was postponed from the schedule and the next episode shown instead with highlights from the unshown episode. The broadcaster reporting explained “The episode we were due to watch tonight, filmed before the spread of COVID-19, was considered inappropriate to show at the moment”There is no news currently of when this episode will be aired but the highlights showed Will and Ethan finding out that Ethan was the father of Fenisha’s unborn baby and a storyline involving Marty and his father.

Fans were left confused and frustrated by missing the episode feeling that the recap wasn’t enough and the episode held crucial parts of current storylines being shown. Other urged for the episode to have been put on BBC IPlayer so viewers could make their own choice to watch it or not.

It’s not the first time an episode of CASUALTY has been postponed; back in 1991 an episode involving a plane crash was postponed for two months when schedulers realised it was going to be aired on the anniversary of the Lockerbie disaster and wanted to avoid offending relatives. With filming yet to recommence on CASUALTY, the show will be taking a small break from our screens, returning on 23rd May.

Who leaves Casualty 2023?

Charlie Fairhead – Why Is Casualty Not On Derek Thompson as Charlie Fairhead. (Image credit: BBC) It has been announced that Casualty icon, Derek Thompson will be leaving the BBC drama after 37 years in the role of Charlie Fairhead. After nearly four decades, Derek will be hanging up his scrubs for good later this year as Charlie bows out of the show in a huge exit storyline.

  • Details of Charlie’s dramatic departure are being kept a secret for now, but it has been confirmed that Derek will be filming until the autumn, and his final scenes as Charlie will air next year.
  • Show insiders have also promised that Charlie will be going out with a bang, which only seems fitting seeing as Derek is Casualty’s longest-serving cast member and has played a central part in the drama since it launched in 1986.

Speaking of his decision to leave Casualty, Derek Thompson said: “The time has come for me to hang up Charlie’s scrubs after the most wonderful 37 years. “Charlie Fairhead was inspired by a real nurse — Pete Salt. Together with the writers and producers, I have tried to bring to Charlie the compassion, kindness, heroism and sound judgement that we all see and love in Pete and I want to say thanks to Pete and everyone else over that time who has inspired me in bringing this character to life.”

Which Casualty episode was Cancelled?

Casualty – Why was tonight’s episode cancelled? – Why Is Casualty Not On BBC As we’ve previously reported, this Saturday’s episode, aka ‘Wednesday’s Child’, was pulled just days before broadcast earlier this week. The update came just days after the BBC announced the episode was under review and said in a statement to Digital Spy : “In light of recent tragic news events, we are reviewing the episode of Casualty due to transmit on 11th June on BBC One.” The BBC’s statement was referring to the devastating shooting which recently took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where 21 people, including 19 children, were killed and 18 further people were injured.

  • This is not the first time that Casualty has pulled an episode for sensitive reasons.
  • During the first lockdown in 2020, an unprecedented situation saw an entire episode of the BBC medical drama skipped completely due to distressing echoes of the coronavirus pandemic.
  • The episode did end up airing at a later date in the autumn.

Last October, Casualty was also taken off air at the last minute in the wake of Sir David Amess’s tragic death. This was because Casualty ‘s instalment, titled ‘Two Tribes’, featured a gang-related knife incident involving doctor Rash Masum. It was eventually broadcast a few weeks later.

Ethan Hardy is a fictional character from the BBC medical drama Casualty, played by actor George Rainsford, He first appeared in the series twenty-eight episode “Bad Timing”, broadcast on 11 January 2014. Rainsford’s casting was announced alongside Richard Winsor who had been hired to play Ethan’s brother Caleb Knight,

The pair were described by the show’s executive producer Oliver Kent as completely different characters who would change the dynamic on Casualty, Ethan is a Specialist registrar in emergency medicine and is an excellent medic who had worked hard to achieve his position in the profession. He is characterised as a shy, socially awkward person with a serious and attentive attitude.

Throughout his inclusion in the show Ethan has shared an on-screen friendship with like minded Lily Chao (Crystal Yu). He has had romantic stories alongside the character Honey Wright ( Chelsee Healey ). Writers developed Ethan’s relationship with his brother Cal into a sibling rivalry.

  1. This has provided both characters with dramatic stories.
  2. The character has played a centric role in a special themed episode titled, “Holby Sin City”,
  3. In the episode Ethan is depicted trying to solve a murder mystery.
  4. In 2015, the show explored a story focusing on Ethan and Cal’s family history.
  5. The storyline was pitched by Casualty’s co-creator Paul Unwin.

It features Ethan learning that he is adopted, meeting his biological mother Emilie Groome ( Carol Royle ) who suffers from Huntington’s disease and later discovering he has inherited the disease. Writers created more romance for Ethan with Cal’s girlfriend Alicia Munroe ( Chelsea Halfpenny ), their affair causes a sibling feud.

When Winsor departed the show in 2017, Cal was murdered by Scott Ellisson (Will Austin). Writers used the incident to create a story of revenge and unethical behaviour to coincide with Ethan’s grief. Ethan’s morals were permanently compromised when he allows Scott to die under the hospital’s care. Writers continued to portray Ethan as unethical through romance stories with his patients Leigh-Anne Carr (Cassie Bradley) and Effie Laurence (Abigail Hardingham).

In 2019, producers gave Rainsford a posttraumatic stress disorder story to portray. Ethan is involved in an explosion which kills a colleague. Survivor’s guilt and stress lead Ethan into yet more unethical behaviour. Other stories include Ethan being involved in a mini-bus crash, being promoted to clinical lead and becoming disillusioned with the NHS system for over-working staff.

He developed a romance with paramedic Fenisha Khatri (Olivia D’Lima), who gave birth to their son Bodhi. Why does BBC keep disappearing?

A warning has been issued to anybody with a TV set-top box – because BBC channels will vanish soon. Millions are being warned they could lose access to BBC channels on their devices. The broadcasting giant will switch off its SD (standard definition) channels and replace them with HD (high definition) only.

  1. Channels will disappear from SD-only set-top boxes as a result.
  2. Freesat viewers with devices which don’t support HD risk losing BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three and BBC Four.
  3. Local programming will migrate between January and February this year.
  4. READ MORE Love Island viewers fear for ‘missing’ star ahead of brutal double dumping The channels will then disappear by next year.

There is a range of HD-enabled satellite devices already available from many high-street retailers. If you’re not sure if your Sky box is an SD-only box then the easiest way to check is to go to channel number 105. If you see ” Channel 5 HD”, then you’re good to go and there’s nothing else you need to do.

  1. However, if you see “Channel 5” without HD at the end then you’ll be impacted and need to upgrade.
  2. If you pay a monthly amount to Sky for your TV, then you can contact Sky directly by going to here or calling them on 0333 759 5121 and they’ll assist you in the upgrade.
  3. But if you only use your Sky box to watch free-to-air channels (and you don’t pay anything to Sky for your television services), then a Freesat replacement box will get you back on track.

As well as giving you access to a range of HD channels (including all the BBC’s HD channels), some of these HD-enabled satellite devices have extra features when they’re connected to the internet. This includes On Demand and catch-up services via apps like BBC iPlayer or ITVX, as well as providing access to subscription video apps like Netflix and Prime Video.

Is the BBC switching off?

The regional versions of BBC One HD have now launched on satellite – Freesat and Sky viewers with high definition (HD)-enabled devices can now watch their local version of BBC One in HD on channel 101 (BBC One HD). Freeview viewers also now have their version of BBC One HD listed in the HD genre in EPG slot 101.

  1. To enable the launch of the HD versions of our channels on satellite, we have had to switch off all the standard definition (SD) versions of BBC One.
  2. This has only impacted viewers who use an SD-only satellite set-top box (Freesat or Sky) to receive their TV.
  3. Freeview viewers will not have been impacted and do not need to upgrade any equipment.

Our full satellite SD channel portfolio will be switched off in early 2024 – so for now, only your local news programming on BBC One will be affected until you upgrade to high-definition equipment, but you will need to upgrade before early 2024 to continue to get BBC channels.

  1. From 19th June, we put out extra messaging on the version of BBC One that our SD-only satellite viewers will see, reminding them of the need to upgrade, please see our FAQ.
  2. Where can I get help if I’m a Freesat or non-subscribing Sky customer?     For satellite viewers, our help scheme is ready to assist with the transition to HD at www.hdsatelliteupgrade.co.uk,

It contains all the information about the changes, the dates when individual HD regions were switched on, and also has details on eligibility for support to help you upgrade your set-top box to HD. If you want to check if you need to take any action, don’t forget that Freesat has launched a tool to see if you’re affected – please go to channel 799 on your Freesat device.
